How does skin needling work?

Skin Needling also known as Collagen Induction Therapy uses a micro-needling device to create controlled micro-injuries to the skin, this puts the cells treated into a natural wound healing response to encourage cell turnover and to stimulate collagen and elastin which in turn will refine the fine lines and wrinkles, diminish scarring & pigmentation, improve overall skin health and texture, improve the appearance of enlarge pores and assists with the absorption of skincare products penetrating the skin at a deeper level. This leaves the skin looking healthy, bright and glowy!

 

Does skin needling hurt?

Some people may experience slight discomfort during skin needling, but it is generally not considered a painful procedure. 

 

How long does a skin needling treatment take?

A skin needling treatment typically takes between 20 and 45 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated.

 

How many skin needling treatments will I need?

The number of skin needling treatments needed will depend on your skin type and concerns, as well as the desired results. Consistent monthly treatments are required to achieve the best results generally with a minimum of 6 consecutive sessions. Once desired results have been achieved, it is recommended maintenance Skin Needling should be every 4-8 weeks.

 

Is skin needling suitable for all skin types?

Skin needling can be suitable for most skin types, but it may not be recommended for people with certain conditions such as severe cases of active acne, skin infections, or raised moles. It is important to consult with a member of The Skin Bar team  to determine if skin needling is appropriate for you. If in your case skin needling is not appropriate for you we have a variety of other effective treatments we can discuss with you. 

 

What can I expect during a skin needling treatment?

During a skin needling treatment, a device with fine needles is used to create microscopic punctures in the skin. The treatment is typically done in a series of passes over the skin to ensure thorough coverage. Some people may experience mild redness, tingling or swelling after the treatment, but these effects should subside within 24-72 hours.

 

What are the potential side effects of skin needling?

Some potential temporary side effects of skin needling include redness, swelling, and skin irritation. These effects are typically mild and temporary, and should subside within a few days, if these indications persist please contact your nearest The Skin Bar Clinic.

 

How long will it take for my skin to heal after skin needling?

The amount of time it takes for your skin to heal after skin needling will depend on the severity of the treatment and your individual healing process. In general, it is common to experience some redness and swelling for a few days after treatment, the skin will generally be healed within 5-7 days.

 

What can I do to care for my skin after skin needling?

After skin needling, it is important to keep the treated area clean and moisturised, avoid picking at or scratching the treated area. You are welcome to enjoy the sun, provided you wear a hat and apply sunscreen with SPF for protection. SPF50+ is highly recommended for protection and weekly exfoliation must be continued at home to reveal fresher looking skin. It is also important to follow the specific aftercare instructions provided by your skin care professional.

 

How much does skin needling cost?

When can I get injectables after or before skin needling?

As a general rule we suggest 2 weeks either side of our needling for toxins and 4 weeks either side for dermal fillers, do consult with your cosmetic injector as these time frames vary person to person.
